Andy Netley Freelance Editor

In today’s session a freelance editor called Andy Netley came in, so we asked him questions on editing, he explained that editing is all about getting images to link together to create a story, he also described how music plays a very important role in editing, being interested in music myself this appealed to me, he went on to explain that its important to choose the right music for the sequence so that it can capture the right mood and set the scene, he also stated that if he is struggling to make an edit he selects a track which he thinks is good for the sequence and edits along to the music, I found this very interesting and may well use this technique in the future. During this session I found myself thinking that the role of an editor really appeals to me because we found out that editing allows creative freedom but also involves a lot of technical stuff, both of these areas appeal to me within the media industry. Andy gave some good tips and how to get in to the editing industry he said that its important to make lots of contacts, to go on lots of work experience, make lots of your own stuff and practice editing he also said that time management is key with in the industry.
